The new panoramic mosaic of the majestic Saturn system taken by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft shows the view as it would be seen by human eyes.

NASA has released the first-ever natural-colour portrait of Saturn, in which the planet, its seven moons and rings, and Earth, Venus and Mars, all are visible.

Comet ISON Photo Contest

Discover is hosting the Comet ISON Photo Contest, together with the National Science Foundation’s Division of Astronomical Sciences, and Astronomy magazine.

 

The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers worldwide. You can submit images online at www.nsf.gov/comet beginning October 15, 2013, through January 15, 2014. Judges will consider images in three categories; in addition, website visitors will vote a “People’s Choice” winner. All winners receive cash prizes, and winning images will appear in print in Astronomy and online at Astronomy.com, DiscoverMagazine.com, and on the NSF website.
